Seasonal PPC: spending smarter when the snow arrives

Ski paid media gets expensive when every click is treated equally. How to align budgets with capacity, source markets and booking windows.

The first heavy snowfall of the season can transform search demand overnight. Competition rises, costs follow and campaigns that looked healthy in autumn can start spending quickly without delivering proportionate value. Seasonal PPC is about deciding in advance where budget should work hardest.

Start with capacity, not keywords

The most valuable question in ski PPC is what you actually need to sell. A chalet operator with two weeks left to fill in February needs a very different strategy from a rental shop with plenty of stock in January. Structure campaigns around remaining capacity, margin and customer value so spend follows commercial priorities.

Respect source markets

Guests from different countries book at different times, search in different languages and respond to different messages. Separate campaigns by market where the behaviour differs, and schedule activity around local school holidays and booking lead times.

Plan for the moments that change demand

  • Early-booking windows, when planners compare options well ahead of travel.
  • Snowfall and conditions updates, which can prompt short-notice decisions.
  • School holiday periods, where availability and price sensitivity shift.
  • Late-season availability, where the right message can fill remaining capacity.

The objective is not the largest volume of clicks. It is the right people, at a cost the business can sustain.

Don't forget the page after the click

Paid media performance depends heavily on the landing experience. Check that each campaign leads to a relevant, fast and mobile-friendly page with a clear next step. Improving conversion on the landing page often does more for return on spend than any bidding change.

Finally, invest in measurement. Where journeys pass through booking engines or third-party tools, work to preserve attribution so decisions are based on bookings and revenue rather than clicks alone.
